Portugal FC Earn Point in Weekend Games2008-08-15![]() Portugal FC draw London City 2-2 before dropping 2-1 decision to Windsor in weekend doubleheader. Portugal FC headed for a western road trip this weekend for fixtures against London City and the Windsor Border Stars. Portugal FC entered the weekend with 15 points, and sitting in fourth place in the International Division.
On Friday night, Portugal FC looked to improve their playoff positioning with a game against London City. The game got off to a poor start as London City's leading goal scorer Andrew Loague scored for the home team in the 25h minute. Danny Amaral, Portugal FC's captain made sure the lead was short lived as he leveled the game in the 31st minute. The game went into the galf tied at 1-1. In the second half, it was again Loague who gave London City the lead with a strike in the 57th minute. Once again it was Amaral who would make sure the lead was short lived with an equalizing strike in the 63rd minute. Neither team was able to score a decider and the two teams ended the match with a 2-2 draw. On Saturday evening, Portugal FC finsihed their western road trip in Windsor. Portugal FC got off to a good start with Danny Amaral continuing his hot weekend with a goal in the 31st minute. However, Portugal FC were unable to hold onto the lead as goals by Tony Crnjac and Blake Ordell (84') gave Windsor a 2-1 decision. The win for Windsor vaults them past Portugal FC in the playoff hunt. Portugal FC currently sit with 16 points 4th place in International Division, however they sit in the 8th and final playoff spot overall. The next fixture for Portugal FC is Friday evening when they travel to Centennial Stadium to take on the Serbian White Eagles in the Rogers Television Game of the Week. Kick-off is 8:00pm |
