The team is managed by officials appointed by the football federation of Portugal and is funded by the government via the same body. The body is in charge of ensuring that the team is registered and licensed to participate in international and local sports competitions. It is also mandated with ensuring that the team members are well prepared and trained in advance for both foreseen and unforeseen tournaments.

At times their performance wasn’t good but their performance over time has been impressive enough to earn them rank among the world’s top football giants. To mention a few matches in the team’s history, on 10th September 2018, Portugal played against Italy and won by one goal to zero, on 11th October 2018 the team played against Poland’s team and bagged another clean win. The most recent major win that Portugal football team has bagged is the UEFA EURO Championship.

For this tournament, the Finals were held in France (Stade de France) to determine the winners. Portugal beat the hosts by one goal during extra time. It was a really interesting match in which the lead player, Cristiano Ronaldo having been injured and momentarily appearing to assume the role of the coach from behind the benches to guide and motivate the team to get a goal by the feet of substitute player Eder to beat the hosts.
